This is an image of a resting cyst from the green algae, Haemotococcus pluvialis. This species of algae accumulates a brilliant red-coloured pigment, astaxanthin, upon times of stress including lack of nutrients. Normally, these cysts are approximately 20 µm in size, give or take a few microns. Say you examined this cyst under the microscope and took a picture of it, but completely forgot to record the magnification used to examine it. At least the ocular micrometer was included in the photo. Use ocular micrometer to figure out and state which objective (4X, 10X, or 40X) was used.
