Question 1 Design a flat roof truss of an industrial building as shown in the figure below. - Height of truss is \( 4.5 \mathrm{~m} \) rise and a width of \( 25 \mathrm{~m} \). - Assume one end of the truss is pinned and the other is roller. - The sections used for truss is angles and channels only. - The load is uniformly distributed along the top. - Any missing data may be suitably assumed. Figure 1: Flat truss. Design should be as per BS code specifications. 1. Determine the loads applied to the top joints. [ 2 marks] The dead load on top should be taken as \( 5.2 \mathrm{kN} / \mathrm{m} \) plus last digit of your ID, and live load must be taken from BS reference. [Example: Student ID is \( 20 \mathrm{~S} 15782 \), dead load is \( 5.2 \mathrm{kN} / \mathrm{m}+2 \) \( \mathrm{kN} / \mathrm{m}=7.2 \mathrm{kN} / \mathrm{m}] \) 2. Analyse the truss. [5 marks] 3. Design one tension member in a truss. [4 marks] 4. Design one compression member in a truss. [4 marks]
