Problem 4-1. A power plant operates on a regenerative vapor power cycle with one closed feedwater heater as shown. Steam enters the first turbine stage at 2000lbf/in2 and 1000?F and expands to 120lbf/in2. A fraction of the steam is extracted at this pressure and directed into the closed feedwater heater where it is condensed to saturated liquid before it is trapped into the condenser. Feedwater leaves the closed heater at 2000lbf/in2 and 400?F before it enters the boiler. The condenser pressure is 1lbf/in2. Show the process on a T?s diagram then calculate: a) the power developed by the turbine per kg of steam into the turbine, and b) the thermal efficiency of the cycle, and c) the exergy destroyed per unit mass for the cycle.
