Draw the condensed and Lewis Structure of C2H5Cl and assign its IUPAC name.
E. Ethane Make a model of ethane, C2H6, from your model of methane by replacing one of the hydrogens by a CH3 unit; the −CH3 unit is called a methyl group. Replace one of the hydrogens in the model by a chlorine atom. Prove to yourself that it does not matter which one is replaced. Any hydrogen can be replaced by chlorine and the result is the same molecule. Just like the hydrogens of methane, the hydrogens of ethane are all equivalent. Replacing any of the hydrogens of ethane with chlorine results in the same structure. Since the hydrogens of ethane are all equivalent there is only one monochloroethane. That is, monochloroethane does not have any isomers. 1. Draw the condensed and Lewis Structure of C2H5Cl and assign its IUPAC name.
