A schematic diagram of a three-hinged arch is shown below. The arch has a span L, and the internal hinge is placed at point C at a height h from A and E. P and Q are the two point-forces acting on the arch. Find out the configuration (shape) of the arch that will make it a funicular structure (i.e. a structure that develops no bending moment) for the given loads. Consider the following two cases- Case-1: Q=P and Case- 2:Q=2P Draw the shape of the funicular arch for these two cases. Also, find out the axial force (also known as normal thrust) and shear force at point C for both cases. Notg that the Fig. : Question 3 is simply a schematic. Your solution might look significantly different from the shape depicted in this diagram.
