2. Topic: Beam deflection Consider the beam shown in Fig. 2 . Figure 2: A beam is fixed between two rigid walls and by a linear ramp loaded as shown. This beam is fixed between two rigid walls and loaded by a linear ramp load as shown in the figure. The data is given in the figure.
As it happens, the beam was chosen by the designer as a W251×18 Wide Steel Flange beam. We hope this was a proper choice. 2a. Compute the moment of inertia for this beam. 2b. Set up the 4th order differential equation for the deflection of this beam using singularity functions; that is define q(x1) using functions like ⟨x1−a⟩n. 2c. Integrate to obtain v(x1) implementing bc's along the way to evaluate integration constants. 2d. Compute the maximum deflection and its location along the beam. 2e. Extra credit (10\%) Compute the maximum bending stress, in magnitude, and algebraically, and indicate its location along the beam.
