1. VTOL Engine Forces A propulsion system for a new VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft is being tested. The design is a basic turbojet with the geometry shown in the figure. The engine is mounted as an additional engine on a test aircraft that has its own primary propulsion system. When the test aircraft is moving horizontally to the left at \( 30 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{s} \), the data recorded at the nozzle exit are: \( \mathrm{T}_{\mathrm{e}}=500 \mathrm{~K}, \mathrm{u}_{\mathrm{e}}=280 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{s} \) and \( \mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{e}}=96.3 \mathrm{kPa} \); and the airflow through the engine is \( \dot{m}_{a}=20 \) \( \mathrm{kg} / \mathrm{s} \). The ambient conditions are given in the figure. (a) Determine the vertical force exerted on the test ai the magnitude and direction of the force. (b) Determine the horizontal force exerted on the tes the magnitude and direction of the force.
