1. Figure Q1 shows the cross section of a T-beam in a residential building, which is simply supported at its two ends with a clear span of \( 6 \mathrm{~m} \) (Note: It is the distance measured between center line of the two end-supports). The end-supports are \( 400 \mathrm{~mm} \) wide. The beam supports the following uniformly distributed loads across. Permanent load \( g_{k}=40 \mathrm{kN} / \mathrm{m} \) (including self-weight) Variable load \( q_{k}=35 \mathrm{kN} / \mathrm{m} \) Use concrete grade \( C 30\left(f_{c k}=30 \mathrm{~N} / \mathrm{mm}^{2}\right) \) and grade 500 steel rebars \( \left(f_{y k}=500 \mathrm{~N} / \mathrm{mm}^{2}\right) \). Concrete cover is \( 30 \mathrm{~mm} \); longitudinal rebar size is \( 32 \mathrm{~mm} \); and stirrup size is \( 10 \mathrm{~mm} \). Design is in accordance with Eurocode 2. (a) Design steel reinforcement for bending. Hence, check the acceptability of the spaneffective depth ratio (10 Marks) (b) Design the shear stirrup reinforcements. Sketch the Iongitudinal section showing the stirrup arrangement in different zones. (15 Marks) Figure Q1
